Shene at Pontville will ignite your passion for Australia's colonial history

From an initial land grant by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1819, Shene has been an important feature of the Tasmanian landscape and history ever since.  You will experience a unique escorted tour of the Shene homestead - a superb Georgian farmhouse, the nearby servants quarters, and the iconic Shene stables and barn. Shene has a wonderful story to tell, its links with the Royal Family, landed gentry and convicts of assignment. The history of this estate, the important part it played in wheat growing in the 1830's. And of course Gamaliel Butler - a story to be told!

Marvel at the skill involved in the construction of these magnificent buildings.  At the conclusion of the tour, you will be invited to join us in the homestead for high tea in the tradition of a bygone era.
